The UN General Assembly, in November 2009, designated 18 July as the Nelson Mandela International Day to recognize the contributions of former South African President Nelson Mandela to the culture of peace and freedom.
Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better! Mandela Day is an occasion for all to take action and inspire change.
Nelson Mandela (also known as Madiba) served humanity in many different areas such as conflict resolution, race relations, human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, rights of children and other vulnerable groups, fight against poverty, social justice etc. His contributions played a massive role in the struggle for democracy at the international level, and towards the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.
