Scientists at RIKEN in Japan have developed a biodegradable plastic that dissolves in saltwater within hours, leaving no harmful microplastics behind.
This new material mimics traditional plastic in everyday use but breaks down safely when exposed to mild conditions like saltwater.
It is made from supramolecular polymers with reversible bonds, providing strength during use but quick degradation when required, offering a better alternative to traditional plastic.
