Carbon cycle is the natural process through which carbon is exchanged between the atmosphere, oceans, soil, rocks, and living organisms on Earth. This cycle, when in rhythm, helps regulate the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, which is essential for maintaining Earth's climate and supporting life on the planet. When humans burn fossil fuels for energy, vast amount of CO2 is released into the atmosphere. This excess CO2 disrupts the carbon cycle — increasing global temperature, causing ocean acidification and damage to the planet's ecosystems.
