Vegan

A person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products such as meat, dairy, eggs and honey; animal derived products like leather; and, as far as possible, products tested on animals.

What is the difference between a vegan and vegetarian ?

A person on a vegan diet refrains from consuming animal protein, as well as, animal products. This includes any type of meat, seafood, dairy, milk, eggs, cheese and honey. Additionally, a vegan diet can be personalized. For instance, someone may avoid using animal tested makeup for concern of animal rights and welfare. Or for health reasons choose a raw vegan diet –– eating mostly uncooked and unprocessed foods. A vegetarian diet similar to a vegan diet abstains from animal protein and meat. However, the difference between vegan and vegetarian is the vegetarian diet may possibly consume some animal products––dairy, milk, eggs, cheese, and honey.

How does a vegan contribute to a sustainable environment ?

A person who follows a vegan lifestyle produces the equivalent of 50 per cent less carbon dioxide than a meat-eater and uses an 11th of the oil, 1/13th of the water and 1/18th of the land. When you do the math, eating vegan really adds up. A global shift to a plant-based diet could reduce mortality and greenhouse gasses caused by food production by 10% and 70%, respectively, by 2050.
